June 10, 2025 โ The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia has officially opened registration for the 2025 Literary Translation Laboratory (LAPS), an intensive training program designed for young or emerging translators from across the country.
The program aims to provide a dedicated learning space for beginner translators to enhance both their technical and soft skills in literary translation. Participants will receive direct mentorship from seasoned professionals in the fields of translation, literature, and publishing, including experienced translators, linguists, and literary scholars from both Indonesia and abroad.
The Literary Translation Laboratory is a strategic initiative by the Ministry of Culture to support the global promotion of Indonesian literature through high-quality translation. The program offers not only expert-led sessions but also hands-on translation projects under the guidance of experienced facilitators.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
An Indonesian citizen aged between 25 and 40 years.
Have translated at least one book (fiction or nonfiction), with a sample translation submitted as part of the application.
Actively involved in Indonesiaโs literary and publishing ecosystem.
Committed to completing the entire program and any follow-up activities (as stated in a Letter of Commitment).
Submit a motivation statement of no more than 500 words.
The training is free of charge. Accommodation and transportation for selected participants will be fully covered by the organizers.
