The Arabic Study Program UGM is committed to continuing to build relationships and connections with alumni by collaborating with Ikatan Alumni Sastra Arab Universitas Gadjah Mada (IKSAGAMA). The following are some alumni of the Arabic Study Program who are active in various fields, both in Indonesia and the world.
Abdur Rahman Irsyadi, S.S., M.Si. is a graduate of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 1990 who currently serves as Director of Human Capital and General Affairs at Social Security Administrator for Employment RI. With expertise in HR management and development, he contributes to the institution in managing human resources and organizational strategy. In addition, he is also active as a trainer at LPPMI (Indonesian Management Development & Assessment Institute), providing training in the field of management. His career journey proves that Arabic Literature graduates can play a professional role in the national strategic sector.
Dr. Hajriyanto Y. Thohari, M.A. is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 1984 who currently serves as the Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lebanon. Previously, he was the deputy chairman of the MPR for the 2009-2014 period. He was then honoured as an inspiring alumni by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM at the faculty’s 76th Dies Natalis.
Prof. Rika Astari, S.S, M.A. is a graduate of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 2000 who currently serves as a professor at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Ahmad Dahlan University. With an educational background in Arabic language and literature, she plays an active role in academic activities, such as teaching and research, especially those related to Islamic studies.
Ahmad Fauzi, S.S., M.A., M.M. is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program at UGM class of 2002 who currently works as Secretary of the Sharia Council of Dompet Dhuafa. He has been involved in Dompet Dhuafa since 2008 and began his career as a program implementer and continued to develop to hold various strategic positions, including Branch Manager and Secretary of the Sharia Council. With extensive experience in zakat and da’wah institutions, he is also active in various humanitarian and religious organizations. This shows his significant role in da’wah management and social empowerment.
Rita Pranawati is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 1995 who currently serves as deputy chair of the Indonesian commission for child protection. She is also a lecturer at Hamka University and a researcher at the Center for Studies and Culture at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University. In addition, she is one of the participants in the Australia Indonesia Muslim Exchange Program and was awarded a Master of Arts in Sociology at Monash University.
Muthia Esfand is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 2001 who currently serves as the CEO, director, and founder of a bookstore called Buku di Teras. Since 2013, she has been a freelance writer at PT Tempo Inti Media Tbk and has published several works. In 2021, she earned a Non-Fiction Writer Certification from the National Professional Certification Agency. She has extensive experience in writing and the creative industry, including roles as Copyeditor at Agromedia Group and PT Sembilan Cahaya Abadi, COO at RANS Publisher and Penerbit Kata Depan, Social Media Manager at RANS Media, CEO of Sunset Road Publisher, and Literary Agent at Codex Literary Agency.
Nikmatur Rahman Chaniago, S.S., M.A. is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 2014 who is currently a Diplomat (Third Secretary) at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Republic Indonesia. Since 2014, he has gained experience in various roles and fields, including the higher education industry, establishing a non-profit organization (Omah Baca) and co-owning a fashion business (Mars Fashions). In 2020, he began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
Muhammad Saifullah Rohman, S.S., M.A. is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 2005 who currently serves as a researcher at the Center for Community and Cultural Research, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). He was an Editor at Diva Press Publisher, Yogyakarta in 2009-2010, then started his career as a researcher at the Center for Community and Cultural Research, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in 2010-2021. Since 2011, he has been actively writing dozens of scientific works and publications, such as books, journals, and proceedings, and is active in various national and international conferences and seminars.
Nifa Andriani, S.S., is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 2015 who currently is a Compensation and Benefit Specialist at Staffinc Group and HR Speaker and Consultant. Since 2019, she began her career as an HR staff at an online platform and several startups. Her participation in various seminars to share knowledge and experiences reflects her commitment to continuous learning.
Vem Rahmad Handoyo is a graduate of the Arabic Study Program at UGM class of 2001 who currently serves as Commissioner at PT Gadjah Mada Mulia and as Owner and Director of PT Visi Eka Mulia, both of which are service partners of the Telkom Group (Telkom Indonesia, Telkom Akses). In addition, Vem also serves as the General Treasurer of Jaringan Saudagar Muhammadiyah. With various other strategic positions, he has shown significant contributions in the world of business and management.
Dr. Dora Amalia, M.Hum. is an alumnus of the Arabic Study Program UGM class of 1990 who currently serves as the Head of the Center for Language and Literature Development and Protection, Agency for Language Development and Cultivation, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. Since 2006, she has played an active role as a lexicographer at the Agency for Language Development and Cultivation.
