UGM’s Arabic Study Program Holds Entrepreneurship Lecture to Nurture Innovative and Adaptive Students

UGM Arabic Study Program Holds Entrepreneurship Lecture to Nurture Innovative and Adaptive Students

Yogyakarta, September 01, 2025The Arabic Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, has introduced an Entrepreneurship lecture led by Dr. Ir. Siti Andarwati, S.Pt., MP., IPU., ASEAN Eng. The lecture is designed to provide students with entrepreneurial insights focused on fostering innovative, impactful, and sustainable mindsets.

In its opening lecture, students were introduced to the scope of entrepreneurship, the urgency of cultivating young entrepreneurs in Indonesia, and their role in driving national economic growth. Referring to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the lecture highlighted how the limited availability of formal jobs must be balanced with the creation of new business opportunities, particularly among the younger generation.

The class also emphasized the philosophical differences between entrepreneurship and wirausaha (sociopreneurship). While entrepreneurship is often rooted in Western individualistic philosophy, the Indonesian concept of wirausaha underscores harmony between individual and community, aiming for broader social benefits.

Students were further equipped with knowledge of entrepreneurial psychological profiles, including self-confidence, results orientation, risk-taking, and future-oriented thinking. The Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle was introduced as a key strategy for building consistent and sustainable business practices.

As part of the interactive session, students worked in small groups to develop and present business ideas, focusing on identifying market opportunities, crafting business plans, and showcasing product innovations. These activities were designed to sharpen their teamwork, problem-solving, and presentation skills while encouraging creative thinking.

Through this course, Arabic Study Program students are expected to cultivate creative and innovative mindsets while viewing entrepreneurship as a meaningful path to contribute to sustainable development. The program also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

UGM’s Arabic Study Program Welcomes the 2025/2026 Academic Year with Academic Supervisor Meeting

Yogyakarta, August 19, 2025 – The Arabic Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), opened the 2025/2026 academic year with a warm and meaningful gathering between Academic Supervisors and their students. This event served not only as an academic briefing but also as a space to strengthen personal connections, ensuring students have a clearer roadmap for their journey at Arabic Study Program UGM.

The Academic Supervisors personally greeted their mentees, fostering closer communication and interaction. The session continued with a review of students’ credit achievements (SKS) and a reminder of the academic credit system, encouraging students to design effective learning strategies for the semesters ahead. In addition, the supervisors introduced students to the projection of their final projects, giving them an early picture of the possible paths they could take in preparing for their culminating academic work.

Beyond academics, students were reminded of the importance of building a professional digital footprint during their time at UGM. They were encouraged to utilize platforms such as LinkedIn to record achievements, experiences, and personal growth. This simple yet strategic step is expected to lay a strong foundation for future careers while supporting the university’s Key Performance Indicators (IKU).

In line with this, the meeting also highlighted opportunities offered by the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, which enables students to strengthen both hard skills and soft skills through experiential learning beyond the classroom.

The session concluded with an emphasis on nurturing student achievement. The Arabic Study Program reaffirmed its commitment to fully supporting students in developing their potential—both academic and non-academic—so that they may grow into graduates who are excellent, competitive, and ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

Muhammad Ghazi Al Ghifari Named Fastest Graduate of FIB at UGM Graduation Period III 2025

Yogyakarta, May 28, 2025 — Thirteen students from the Arabic Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) participated in the Period III Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic year. Among them, Muhammad Ghazi Al Ghifari earned the distinction of being the fastest graduate in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), completing his degree in just 3 years, 6 months, and 12 days.

The announcement was made by the Dean of FIB, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, M.Si., during the Mangayubagya Graduation Ceremony held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Soegondo Auditorium. In the heartfelt event, Al Ghifari also delivered a speech on behalf of the graduates. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who had supported the graduating students and encouraged his peers to uphold integrity and apply the knowledge gained during their time at university.

Originally from Petaling Banjar Village, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Province, Al Ghifari was admitted to the Arabic Study Program on May 25, 2021, through the Penelusuran Bibit Unggul Berprestasi Seni (Special Admission for Artistic Talent). After completing seven semesters, he defended his undergraduate thesis on February 12, 2025, titled “The Quality of DeepL Translations in Translating Fictional Texts from Arabic to Indonesian”. He officially graduated with a GPA of 3.93 and earned his Bachelor of Arts (S.S.) degree on February 28, 2025, at the age of 21 years and 6 months.

Al Ghifari noted that there was no special formula behind his academic achievement. “I simply committed to writing my thesis every day—even if it was just a paragraph—and consulted with my advisor weekly,” he said. The consistent support of his parents was also a major motivation for completing his studies swiftly and preparing to pursue a master’s degree.

He also praised the Arabic Study Program at UGM as an ideal environment to study the Arabic language, literature, and culture. The program holds national and international accreditation and is supported by a team of highly qualified and professional lecturers. Al Ghifari hopes the program will continue to grow in quality and reputation on the global stage.

Looking ahead, Al Ghifari is determined to pursue a master’s degree with a focus on Middle Eastern political, economic, and cultural issues.
