History

The Arabic Study Program (henceforth referred to as ASP) of Universitas Gadjah Mada was founded on July 6, 1963. Currently, the ASP is organized based on the Decree of Rector of UGM No. 1718 of 2017, with its graduates holding a Sarjana Sastra degree (equivalent to Bachelor of Arts in Literature). ASP is managed by two departments in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, i.e., Department of Linguistics and Literatures and Department of Cross-cultural Studies. As an effort of ensuring the sustainable improvement of quality, ASP is audited internally every year by AMI UGM and is accredited by Higher Education National Accreditation Board (BAN-PT) every five years. Based on the Reaccreditation Decree No. 3954/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/X/2019, the ASP was accredited “A” with 388 score of maximum 400.
