Elvira Sundari Wins 1st Place in Yogyakarta Language Ambassador Competition

Yogyakarta, May 23, 2025 — Elvira Sundari, an Arabic Study Program student at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), claimed first place in the female category of the 2025 Yogyakarta Language Ambassador Selection. The award was announced during the Grand Final and Awarding Night held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 7:00 PM WIB in the Bima Hall, Yogyakarta City Hall.

In a night filled with energy and excitement, Elvira delivered an outstanding performance alongside Razif Raihan Rasyid, a student from Faculty of Animal Science UGM, who was named the male first-place winner. Together, they will represent the Yogyakarta Special Region at the upcoming National Language Ambassador Competition.

The Yogyakarta Language Ambassador Competition is an annual program organized by the Yogyakarta Language Center (Balai Bahasa Yogyakarta or BBY) to select young individuals with strong competence in language and literature. The selection process began well before the awarding night, starting with document screening, followed by interviews, intensive training, and final evaluations. Participants were assessed on personal potential, linguistic knowledge, and foreign language proficiency.

Drs. Anang Santosa, M.Hum., Head of BBY, emphasized that the Language Ambassador selection is more than a competition. It is a platform to shape agents of change who can preserve and promote the Indonesian language, safeguard regional languages, and master foreign languages. This initiative also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by empowering youth in advancing literacy, language, and cultural awareness.

SANJUNG #2: QIS’AR UNS Conducts Comparative Study Visit to IKMASA UGM

Yogyakarta, May 17, 2025 – The Arabic Study Program Student Association (IKMASA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) warmly welcomed a delegation from Qismul Adabil ‘Arabiy (QIS’AR) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) for a comparative study visit held at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM. The event was held to strengthen inter-organizational connections and foster lasting relationships between student associations of Arabic Study programs.

The visit was attended by all members of IKMASA, representing each department, and led by IKMASA Chairperson Candra Solihin. The QIS’AR UNS delegation, numbering around 50 students, was accompanied by their Chairperson, Adil Alhuda.

The visit began with welcoming speeches from the heads of both student associations, followed by detailed presentations of work programs from each department. To facilitate in-depth discussions, participants were divided into smaller groups consisting of 2–3 corresponding departments for more focused exchanges.

The event concluded with a documentation session held in Room 709 of the Soegondo Building and in front of the Graha Sabha Pramana building, capturing the spirit of collaboration and mutual learning that defined the day.

Ikmasa Future Leaders 2025: Cultivating Strategic Leadership Under Pressure

Yogyakarta, May 10, 2025 – Ikmasa Future Leaders 2025 was successfully held at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FIB UGM). Carrying the theme “Think Beyond the Urgent: Leading with Strategy, Not Stress”, the event featured Nafesya Amrina Rasyada, S.S., as the keynote speaker.

The program was attended by the Arabic Study Program Student Association (IKMASA) members and aimed to encourage participants to understand the importance of strategic thinking in decision-making—especially in high-pressure situations.

In her presentation, Nafesya emphasized the diversity of critical thinking frameworks, highlighting the need for individuals to adapt their decision-making processes to context, timing, and specific needs. Her session covered various perspectives on decision making, types of urgency in both personal and professional settings, the qualities of an ideal leader in decision-making situations, and practical steps toward becoming a responsible individual who can own their decisions—whether right or wrong.

This initiative is part of IKMASA’s ongoing leadership and character development program, designed to support the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Through this mentoring session, participants were encouraged to distinguish between decisions made under emotional pressure and those resulting from reflection and well-thought-out analysis—an essential skill for future leaders in both organizational and professional environments.
